Couldn't Put It Down!!
By Karen C. Post on January 21, 2015
Format: Paperback
I started reading this and could not put it down. It's a true story about how a large company put profits before the well being of a community. Not a new plot, sadly, but written honestly and engagingly from the heart. Here was the mayor of a small town, who early in his admininistration, discovers that files had been purposely hidden away that revealed not only devastating pollution, but the collusion of town officials in the whole mess. He stands for his town through bribe offers and threats to bring the issue to light. It's written really well; the reader is drawn into what happens when one person takes a stand against such a powerful adversary. It keeps you practically holding your breath through it all. Great read!

Fabulous book on a very important subject... a subject that touches more of us than we realize. Having grown up in a place exactly like this, it's interesting that I finished this book on my last night of a five day hospital stay. At this very moment, a team of the best medical professionals are trying to diagnose the disease that has made me ill for the last 3 years. Thank you, Mr. Sinsimer, for all you have done to bring this kind of a subject to the forefront in a well-written and captivating book.

A very
important book, written by a very brave man.
It was all too reminiscent of a situation in my home town. Reminds me to have
the courage to speak up and be an example to those who may be unaware of such
threats to our environment and society.

I finished reading The Brook yesterday. I read it in record time because I could not put this book down. I want to personally thank Author John Sinsimer for writing this book. I want to thank him for his courage and for all his family endured to bring environmental change to Pompton Lakes. It took his great leadership and bravery to achieve environmental justice for our town. I learned about some historical issues relating to the contamination I did not know about. I also learned more about the severe health issues related to these chemicals in our environment. Tingling, numbing, nerve issues and so many more illnesses tied into their chemicals. Great read and I loved it! If anyone out there has not read it yet, I highly recommend this book. This is our story and the story continues...Sequel? I hope so! I've been
looking forward to this book for a long time! It did not disappoint! The
characters are down to earth and the fact that most everyone knew each other
gives it the small town feel.
The Corporate Giant seemed like it was impenetrable until all the pieces of the
puzzle were put together. It started as a small "discovery" that lead to the
downfall of the corporate Giant. It's so sad because the townspeople were
clueless for decades. So many people passed away due to the toxins BEFORE the
truth came to light. In the end, as sad as it was, yes the corporate Giant was
leveled but the decades of suffering of this small town did not. Very great
read, I couldn't put it down! Kudos for such an honest, real picture of what
Corporate America can do & has done to a small town.

Very interesting topic and story line. I just wish it wasn't true, with the names changed to protect the guilty. The corporation has been hiding and burying this toxic waist for decades. My uncle died from leukemia he was a plant foreman. My mother died of a rare brain tumor, she washed the clothes my father wore while working with the lead azitate and mercury. I work at a local medical facility and see the effects on local people. I could go on and on but it will just upset me. I'm glad he wrote this book, I wish people would read this and fight for cleaning up toxic pollution.
5To see what the corporation did with the quiet assent of crooked politicians was just so sad.

Written from the perspective of a the newly elected Mayor, this book recounts the story of a small town poisoned by a large corporation. Jack draws you into the story from the very first page. You cheer as this one man takes on the corporate giant. This book hit home for me as it was written by a former classmate of mine about the same small town that I grew up in. To see what the corporation did with the quiet assent of crooked politicians was just so sad. To know that this story is repeated around the world should outrage us all.
It was great to see that the mayor took initiative to deal with the issues head on

"...the
author has a fabulous voice for the genre. The technical skills are there.
Strong story structure. No major plot holes. The editorial side is strong and
the book is a solid entry.
Over-all the production quality is high. ...was a little bogged down with pacing
from time to time. Otherwise, this was a nice entry and one to be proud of.
...do hope to read more from this author in the future. "
